The Difference Between Dry Erase Wallpaper and Dry Erase Magnet Sheets

Though they look similar, Opti-Rite® dry erase peel 'n stick wallpaper and OptiMa™ Dry Erase Magnet Sheets are very different.

Two Different Dry Erase Solutions

Opti-Rite® dry erase wallpaper and OptiMa™ Dry Erase Magnet Sheets both have a scratch resistant dry erase writing surface with unmatched erase-ability. Opti-Rite® dry erase wallpaper has an clay-based adhesive or self-adhesive application and the OptiMa™ Dry Erase Magnet Sheet is an actual magnet that attaches to any magnetic receptive surface like atop an old whiteboard, blackboard, fridge or steel surface in general.

Why Some People Confuse Them

It's easy to see why people get them mixed up. They look incredibly similar. Both the Opti-Rite® dry erase wallpaper and OptiMa™ Dry Erase Magnet have the same glossy white surface and are even packaged the same way- in a neat roll that decreases your cost and and damage risk during shipping. However, if you look closely, you'll notice the thickness and backing of these two different dry erase products is very different. Here are some extreme close-ups to help our customers understand which product is right for them.

Backing and Thickness

Dry Erase Wallpaper

In these photos we compare the most popular Opti-Rite® MSA Peel 'n Stick covering with the OptiMa™ Dry Erase Magnet Roll. From the photos you can tell that the backing of these dry erase solutions are very different. The Opti-Rite® MSA has a super shiny backing which is actually an extremely tough adhesive that cures permanently on to any non-porous surface. It can even hold up in harsh weather. Conversely, the OptiMa™ Dry Erase Magnet Roll backing is made of one singular piece of flexible magnet that is made specifically for attaching to any magnetic receptive surface. It's thick, yet cuttable with an X-Acto knife or scissors. The best part is, you can customize and print any design on them.

What Do you Use Them For?

These dry erase applications are specifically designed to meet various visual communication needs.
