Can you install it on fresh primer?

Whether you’re planning to install a self-adhesive or a clay based adhesive dry erase wallcovering, all painted application surfaces must be dried AND CURED. Curing can take months. Check your paint manufacturer’s data sheet for curing times. If you are installing a wall covering that requires a clay based adhesive, the use of a white acrylic primer like this one is recommended on clean, smooth, dry, structurally sound surfaces to prep the wall for a proper bond, help cover up extreme light and dark areas of drywall, and to allow for damage free removal in the future.

Can it be installed on glossy surfaces?

If you are installing a dry erase wallcovering that requires a clay based adhesive, glossy surfaces should be sanded or coated with a professional vinyl prep. A white acrylic primer like this one is recommended on clean, smooth, dry, structurally sound surfaces to prep the wall for a proper bond, help cover up extreme light and dark areas of drywall, and to allow for damage free removal in the future.

If you’re applying a Self-Adhesive (peel-n-stick) dry erase wall covering to a glossy surface, don’t worry about sanding or applying vinyl. Just clean the surface as best as possible to improve the adhesive bond.

Does it bend or crease easily?

Opti-Rite® material comes packaged in a clean roll. Any folding or creasing that happens during application could be permanent. Applying on concave or convex substrates is possible but not recommended. For best results, use scissors or an X-Acto knife to cut the material to fit perfectly to a wall corner or other angled substrates.

Can I install it on curved wall or surfaces?

Yes, Opti-Rite® can be installed on curved walls. It  comes in a roll just like wallpaper, so follow the same application process but take extra care in pushing out extra moisture or air from under the product.

Can I take it off the wall later?

Our self-adhesive and clay adhesive products are permanent solutions, but can be stripped from the wall. Stripping our industrial strength adhesives from the wall will most likely remove the paint. Our Opti-Rite® Home Office kits will cause the least amount of damage if removed.

Can you cut it?

Yes, cutting Opti-Rite® is easy. To make installation easier, Opti-Rite® actually comes with extra length and width that is meant to be trimmed with scissors or an X-acto knife.

How do you install it?

The application process varies for self-adhesive and clay based adhesive required products.

Self-Adhesive Opti-Rite® Dry Erase Wallpaper application is a simple process that involves pulling a small amount of the backing off, sticking it to the wall and squeezing the air out while pulling off the rest of the backing. Please refer to these step by step instructions for best results.

Installing clay-based adhesive required Opti-Rite® products may require professional help. A high quality acrylic primer and or “size” must be used to achieve the best product performance. A heavy duty clay based adhesive is absolutely necessary to adhere the covering to the wall. Wall to wall installations can be achieved using basic tools like a measuring tape, a level, and sandpaper. Read all instructions carefully before installing the adhesive required Opti-Rite® products. You can find a link to the adhesive required installation instructions here.

How do I remove permanent marker ink from Opti-Rite® Material?

Depending on the amount of time the permanent marker ink was sitting on the Opti-Rite® Material, you may be able to remove it by coloring over it with a dry erase marker and wiping it with a fiber cloth. Both types of ink have an alcohol based solvent allowing them to "dissolve" each other.

How to properly care for it?

For daily erasing, we recommend the  Opti-Wipes™ Dry Erase Wiping Cloths or a fiber cloth. Do not use a chalkboard eraser or paper towel. A weekly clean with water or isopropyl alcohol is a great way to keep the material looking good as new. Do not use general disinfectant cleaners, bleach or acetone, as this product will degrade when these harsh chemicals are used. To disinfect the writing surface, isopropyl alcohol is the best.

Does it leave marker streaks or ghosting?

No way, Jose. Many companies will list that their product leaves no “ghosting,” but it’s not always true. A dry erase mark will vanish completely from the Opti-Rite® wall covering with the swipe of a fingertip. Of course, we do recommend using the  Opti-Wipes™ Dry Erase Wiping Cloths. Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft cloth will do the trick any time the dry erase ink is left on the whiteboard to the point where it’s too hard to remove with an eraser.

How long does it last and does it peel after a while?

Opti-Rite® products are guaranteed to last 20,000 wipes. The Opti-Rite® 2M is guaranteed to last 10,000 wipes. Opti-Rite® products are designed to persevere. In rare cases, where temperature fluctuations are extreme, corner lifting may be noticeable. Adhesive spray or glue will do the job.

Is it environmentally friendly?

Yes, Opti-Rite® products are made with 32% consumer waste. Compared to DIY whiteboards using paper and a sleeve protector, Opti-Rite® products last longer, produce less waste and are reusable.
